The original Toleman company had been formed by his grandfather Edward Toleman in 1926, who passed the reins to his son Albert and then, later, to Ted who became chairman. In 1980, he launched Toleman Motorsport's entry into the F1 championship the following season. It was slow going at first - they only qualified for two races in 1981 - but things began to click into gear two years later as British driver Derek Warwick scored a run of points. But 1984 brought the peak of the team's success, when Toleman convinced a young man named Ayrton Senna to ignore the advances of Bernie Ecclestone, who ran the rival Brabham team at the time, and sign for his squad. Toleman evenutally settled in homes in Suffolk UK but also had homes in Australia and Manila. He was the only person in history to run the marathon under two hours and one minute in a record-eligible race. He ran three of the seven fastest marathons in history. Kiptum won three marathons he participated in, all renowned, including two top-tier World Marathon Majors (WMM), and held between December 2022 and October 2023. The times he achieved are three of the six fastest times in history, a course record under 2:02 in each case, making him the only man ever to break this barrier thrice. Kiptum ran the fastest-ever marathon debut at the 2022 Valencia Marathon, becoming only the third man in history to break two hours and two minutes and setting the then fourth-quickest time ever.[5] Kiptum followed it up four months later with the second-fastest marathon in history at 2:01:25, 16 seconds outside the world record, at the 2023 London Marathon (WMM).[6] In his next race, the 2023 Chicago Marathon (WMM) six months later in October 2023, the 23-year-old broke the world record by 34 seconds with a time of two hours and 35 seconds. Reporting for BBC Northern Ireland's Scene Around Six and as the national radio correspondent he covered some of the worst atrocities including Bloody Sunday and Bloody Friday. Born in Belfast, his journalistic career began at the Newtownards Chronicle. It was with the Chronicle where he had his first encounter with a major news story, covering the sinking of the Princess Victoria in 1953. He spent a few years working in Vancouver, returning to Northern Ireland to edit a local paper, then joining the reporting staff of the Belfast Telegraph and on to the BBC. Mr Capper joined the BBC team in Buenos Aires during the Falklands War. After 26 years, he left the BBC shortly after reporting on the Enniskillen bomb in 1987, but continued to work in media advising developing radio stations abroad. His family said he eventually settled in Donaghadee where he had spent his childhood summers. They said apart from travel, his passions included music and narrow gauge steam railways. He had three children, Chris, Diarmit and Samantha, and nine grandchildren. As a player, he was a centre-back. Born in France, he played for the Ivory Coast national team. Bamba started his career in his native France with Paris Saint-Germain, but failed to establish himself in their first team. He moved to Scotland to join Dunfermline Athletic in 2006, helping the club reach the final of the Scottish Cup in his first season. Two years later, he was transferred to Hibernian, before joining English side Leicester City in January 2011. Bamba was sold to Turkish club Trabzonspor in 2012 for £750,000 before joining Palermo. However, he was loaned to Leeds United after making only one appearance in six months. He eventually joined Leeds on a permanent deal and was appointed club captain, spending a further year with the club before being released and subsequently joining Cardiff City. In his first full season with Cardiff, he helped the side win promotion to the Premier League. He retired in 2022 after one year at Middlesbrough, and was assistant manager of Cardiff in 2023 and manager of Adanaspor in Turkey at the time of his death. Born in France to Ivorian parents, Bamba represented Ivory Coast in the 2008 Olympic Games and earned 46 caps for the senior international team between 2008 and 2014.[4] He was chosen for two World Cups and three Africa Cup of Nations, finishing as a runner-up in the latter in 2012.
